Plymouth Marjon Volleyball Club
Formed in 2009, Plymouth Marjon Volleyball Club (PMVC) provides the most comprehensive opportunities for the whole community to play and enjoy volleyball within the Plymouth area.
The club is affiliated with Volleyball England, the lead body for volleyball in the UK and also works in partnership with the University College Plymouth St Mark & St John's (UCP Marjon).
PMVC caters for players of any experience and complete beginners, and for anyone just wanting to find out more about one of the greatest and most exciting team sports there is.
Nationally qualified coaches help novices and the more competent players alike experience both technical and fun training sessions and get fit. Those who wish to put their skills to the test can take part in volleyball matches appropriate to their level of ability.
Currently teams are involved in local challenges, for example with other like local teams, Marjon Students are involved as a BUCS team (British Universities & Colleges Sport) who play other Universities and top teams, the Exeter League plus separate Student and club teams in SW leagues. Lastly, there is a team structure to play within the southwest league set up. An aim for the future is to form a team to play at national League level, the highest in the country and to investigate Sitting Volleyball, open to non, and disabled players alike.
PMVC is an extremely welcoming club for all ages, both male and female and teams reflect this ethos. During ‘the season’ training and matches takes place on inside courts, with outdoor tournaments taking place during the summer months, these being both on grass and the beach, plus with fun training sessions on outdoor courts on the Hoe during the summer months.
The Club and coaches are keen to increase involvement with local schools to provide a proper pathway and opportunities for volleyball participation throughout a young persons education and into adulthood.
The partnership between PMVC and UCP Marjon is very fruitful and facilitates the use of one of the best sporting venues within the southwest.
Training nights are currently on Tuesdays, 7-9, but the club are looking to increase opportunities as facilities become available.
With volleyball being a major international and Olympic sport destined to showcase the sport at the 2012 Olympics in London, there is no better time to enjoy volleyball.
