Health, Sport & Adventure Placement Providers
The School of Sport, Physical Education and Leisure (SSPEL) prides itself on being able to provide students with the opportunity to complete periods of Placement Learning as part of their academic studies. Placement Learning helps us to produce graduates with the practical skills to complement their academic studies. The staff and students of SSPEL would like to express their sincere thanks to you for working in partnership with us to facilitate this.
Via the 'Documents' area you can access electronic copies of the paperwork sent to you during the placement process. We hope in time that you will also be able to complete and return some forms electronically.
Locating and Finalising Placements Arrangements
The process for organising placements is not set in stone; it is necessary to build some flexibility into the process. For this reason dates are not included in this section. The paperwork sent to you by the College will contain personalised information and deadlines.
The majority of students will follow the process outlined below. In some instances potential placement providers will be contacted in the first instance by the College so that placement opportunities can be collated centrally and potential placement providers are not overwhelmed by requests.
- With guidance from College staff students consider where they would like to undertake their placement. Consideration is given to achieving the learning outcomes of the module.
- Students make contact with organisations they’d like to be placed with to explore if any placement opportunities are available to them.
- Once a firm offer of a placement has been made to the student they return a Placement Learning Questionnaire (PLQ) to the College.
- The College will make contact with the organisation listed on the PLQ and enclose this booklet. Organisations are asked to return a Placement Providers Confirmation Form (PPCF) to formally confirm to the College they are able to offer a placement. This form also ensures the College has the correct contact details for the potential placement provider and Placement Supervisor.
- The PPCF is reviewed by the student’s College Placement Advisor (CPA). The suitability of the placement is reviewed in relation to the learning outcomes of the module. If appropriate, the placement will be approved.
- Once the placement has been approved a confirmation letter will be sent to the Placement Supervisor confirming the placement and including contact details for the student and CPA and the student’s
CRB number. - The student will make contact with their Placement Supervisor to organise an induction meeting.
Alongside this process students attend a number of preparatory sessions that brief them on their responsibilities, the learning outcomes that need to be fulfilled by the placement and how we expect Marjon students to behave whilst on placement.
Paperwork completed during the induction meeting should be returned via the student to the College. Once received by the College the placement can commence.
