BEd (Hons) Teaching English as a Second Language

For 25 years now UCP Marjon has run a BEd (Hons) Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Honours Degree programme, along with a integrated BEd in-service provision.  At different times the training has been for primary and secondary level teaching and mainly for groups of trainees from countries where English is a second language.

One particularly interesting feature is the placement of the students for their main practical teaching in schools in their own countries.  This has required co-operation and joint training activity between Marjon and institutions in the student’s own country.  This activity has normally been linked to an international twinning development project designed to strengthen the capacity of local institutions to provide degree level training in their own right.

Over the years, our BEd TESL development projects have been linked to capacity-building developments primarily in Malaysia, but also in Namibia and the Republic of Maldives.
