The Sports Coaching pathway is essential for any student who has aspirations of becoming an
expert coach, making sports coaching their future career or wishing to study sports coaching at Masters level. The pathway focuses on coaching theory and methods, addressing topics such as
coaching philosophy, coaching and leadership behaviours and coach-athlete relationships. In year 3 the modules focus on coaching young performers and performance coaching.

Health, Exercise and Physical Activity
This pathway is aimed at students interested in health, fitness and physical activity. Students
will study and practice how to develop personalised exercise programmes in year 2 as well as complementary approaches to encourage health and wellbeing, including Pilates, ergonomics,
massage and yoga. In addition, guest speakers on Hypnotherapy, Reiki and reflexology are introduced. The final aspect of this pathway examines the important role of physical activity and
nutrition in promoting the short and long-term health of children and young people, particularly those who do not consider themselves as ‘sporty’.

The Sport and PE: International Perspectives pathway will enable students to be internationally
informed and will equip them for a future in an international, multi-cultural environment. The acquisition of global awareness and the understanding of diversity of culture and society on our
planet is an integral part of sport. We live and work in a world which is globally interdependent. The rapid development of global economies, markets and international alliances will result in an increased
demand for sports graduates who can be internationally knowledgeable, internationally mobile and inter-culturally competent. There will be opportunities for international visits and/or placements.

Outdoor Adventure
The Outdoor Adventure pathway will offer students an opportunity to develop skills and expertise in a
second subject. The first two modules on offer will have a skills, journeying and expeditioning focus. These will allow students to develop personal and group management skills in different environments.
The third module will enable students to specialise in one area such as work with young people, work within the corporate world or perhaps have a greater appreciation of sustainability within the outdoor
adventure culture, the activities, the people and the places.

This pathway should be of interest to anyone who is interested in sport and leisure, but particularly
those students who may want to pursue a career in Sports Development. The second year module explores how sport and leisure policy is formulated at national level and implemented at local level.
The third year modules apply the underpinning theory developed in the second year to a range of real Sports Development examples.

This pathway is aimed at students who have an interest in the use of sport and outdoor adventure as a means of enhancing quality of life for people with disabilities. It addresses the relationship between physical activity and the health and personal development of individuals with a range of physical and learning disabilities. It explores changes in our understanding of disability as well as strategies for adapting and modifying sports and outdoor activities to ensure they are accessible to all. The pathway combines taught elements with case study based research and a period of work placement.

Child welfare encourages students to develop their understanding of theory and practice through a range of challenging learning experiences to enable them to practice from an informed position in this exciting field.
