FdA Sports Development and Coaching
Introduction
The sports development and sports coaching course is designed with employers within the sports industry, and combines academic study with work place learning to equip you with relevant knowledge and skills to ensure you are ready for employment or to further your career. The sports development and coaching course explores key issues within sports development and coaching to ensure students have a critical understanding of the sport and leisure sector. Students engage with key issues on a practical, vocational and theoretical basis to ensure they have a well rounded experience of Higher Education. You will be taught by Sports Development and Coaching academics who have professional industry experience. Your contact time will be approximately 16 hours a week. This 2 year programme is equivalent to the first 2 years of a BA Honours Degree.Course Code / Duration

Entry Requirements
We would normally expect entrants to have 160 points, However, entry requirements are flexible to encourage applications from both traditional and non traditional entrants to higher education. Year 1
The first year introduces the foundations of sports development and coaching and develops in students an understanding of the key concepts and underlying principles within the field. You will gain insight into the organisation and structure of sport and how sport is used in a number of different contexts. Year one also introduces study skills to help prepare students for studying within Higher Education.
Year 2
The second year develops the concepts, issues and theories introduced in the first year and provides opportunities to apply these in context through practical modules and within the workplace.
Year 3
Third year progression routes are available onto programmes such as our BA Sports Development – allowing foundation degree students the opportunity to complete an honours degree.
