QTS Undergraduate Courses

Teaching is a very popular and rewarding career.  Our BEd courses are focused on preparing you to become an outstanding teacher.  Each of the following courses lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), which qualifies you to become a classroom teacher.

BEd (Hons) Early Years
Single Honours

BEd (Hons) Primary Education
Single Honours

BEd (Hons) Secondary Education and Physical Education
Single Honours

In addition to the specific course entry requirements, all BEd applicants will need to meet the following general entry requirements:

  • To be able to clearly and accurately communicate both spoken and written English
  • Candidates must take part in an individual and/or a group interview with representatives from schools as well as University College tutors
  • For Early Years and Primary courses, candidates must have recent primary school experience
  • For Secondary courses, candidates must have recent secondary school experience

GCSE Requirements

In addition to the general entry requirements, all BEd applicants must have grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics GCSE examinations or equivalent qualifications. If you are applying for Primary programmes, applicants must have a grade C or above at GCSE (or equivalent) in at least one science subject before application unless you are taking an Access to HE Diploma.

Non QTS Courses

Some students, although very interested in teaching, may want some additional flexibility in their course.  If this is you, then perhaps one of our Non QTS courses may be more appropriate.  Each of these courses provide a pathway onto a PGCE, enabling you to become a qualified teacher, but still provides you the flexibility to consider future careers outside of the classroom as well.  Including a new 2 year fast-track degree course in Primary Education and Physical Education.
