VACANCY FOR CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS
The University College Plymouth St Mark & St John has a long and distinguished history as a provider of higher education, stretching over 170 years, and offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes through its two faculties - the Faculty of Education, Health and Welfare and the Faculty of Sport, Media Arts and Management. The University College is a Church of England Foundation institution.
The University College is seeking to appoint a Chair of the Board of Governors with significant current or recent Board level experience in large complex institutions. The Chair must be able to represent the University College at regional and national levels and must have an awareness of the challenges facing higher education and the South West region. The Chair will provide strategic leadership and direction to the Board of Governors to ensure the University College continues to meet its mission and strategic vision.
The Chair plays a key role in ensuring the Board of Governors conducts itself in accordance with the expected standards of behaviour of public life and ensures that the Board exercises control over the strategic direction of the University College.
The University College is a company limited by guarantee and an exempt charity (with Governors acting as company directors and trustees of the charity). The primary responsibilities of the Board include approval of the mission and strategic vision of the University College, monitoring institutional performance to ensure financial sustainability, and ensuring sound corporate governance.

This post is not remunerated, however travel and similar expenses incurred in the course of University College business will be reimbursed.
