Go mad for Plymouth M.A.D. 2010!
Released: 17.08.10
After the huge success of last
year’s Plymouth Marjon Adventure Day (M.A.D.) the UCP Marjon Outdoor Adventure
team and a host of partners are holding the second Plymouth M.A.D. on Sunday 3rd
October.
Plymouth M.A.D. is Plymouth's
only urban adventure challenge where teams or individuals race in a
multi-sport test of navigation, endurance and skills on a course that is only
revealed hours before the event begins.
Cycling,
orienteering, running, abseiling, wall climbing and rowing
all feature during Plymouth M.A.D., with the routes designed for a variety of
competitors with different fitness levels and abilities.
For those new to Adventure
Racing, there’s a short route that will introduce entrants to this exciting
sporting activity. For the experienced Adventure Race enthusiasts, the
long route will test fitness and endurance. The long route will
take entrants away from Plymouth to the fringes of Dartmoor, down to the
sea and back to the race headquarters at UCP Marjon. The route will
take in a variety of challenges over a range of terrain.
Regardless of the route taken (short
or long), the course will take advantage of the green space and beautiful
natural surroundings of Plymouth, and will test fitness and levels of endurance.
Prizes (provided by sponsors Cogs-Bikes and Forces-Nutrition) are available for the winners
of each category, although the focus of the day is for all involved to have fun
and enjoy ‘the great outdoors’ that Plymouth has to offer. Take part as an
individual or enter a team (maximum three adults per team). The minimum entry
age is 14 years; under 18 teams can consist of a maximum of 4 people, but must
have at least one adult in the team.
In addition all entrants will be
entitled to a free bike service (worth £35) complements of Cogs-Bikes in
Plymouth, and a discount code that can be used on the Forces-Nutrition website.
With more thrills, spills and
surprises than last year there is still the opportunity to take part. Book
before 1st September and receive a £5 discount off each entry fee
(entry fee £20 each after 1st September; £15 for under 18s). Visit www.plymouthmad.co.uk
to find out more and to book, or call 01752 636876 or email plymouthmad@ucpmarjon.ac.uk
