University College Plymouth St Mark & St John

Second City Leaders Business Event

Released: 22.06.09

UNIVERSITY College Plymouth St Mark and St John (UCP Marjon) are to host ARROW's UK & Ireland congress (29th June – 3rd July). The congress is a week-long event that will provide young people from other ARROW groups around the UK and Ireland with a chance to speak out and be heard about issues that they feel passionate about.

ARROW (Art: a Resource for Reconciliation Over the World), is committed to developing the creative arts as a tool for reconciliation, challenging prejudices, false myths and stereotypes and using the language of the arts to build bridges and relationships across perceived boundaries and barriers.

A symposium attended by leading education experts from around the world is being held as part of the congress programme. This symposium will provide a platform for discussion and debate around many of the issues ARROW is trying to address.

An ARROW Global Congress (the first of its kind in the UK) is planned for 2010 and already has expressions of interest from 19 countries.

To help generate support and to officially launch the countdown to the global event, a Business Leaders Networking Event will be held in the Desmond Tutu Centre at UCP Marjon on Thursday 2nd July (6-8pm).

This event is supported by Foot Anstey Solicitors and one of the keynote speakers is Susan Tucker – business excellence director at Foot Anstey, who has recently run a very successful art project with schools in Plymouth.  This fits nicely with the ARROW programme and Foot Anstey is also keen to help us make the global congress happen in the city, so will be conveying the message of collaboration among businesses to enable international events to take place in the city.

Also attending the event will be the symposium education experts from across the world, young people from the UK and Ireland ARROW groups and several inspirational speakers.

If you would like to attend the Business leaders networking event on Thursday 2nd July please contact Mandi Barnett, UCP Marjon’s business development co-ordinator, mbarnett@marjon.ac.uk.
Tel: (01752) 636700 ext.5609. Free parking is also available.
